Who are we? MORE ABOUT TV FREELANCERS
TV Freelancers is a unique independent internet community, catering exclusively and specifically to the needs of freelancers in the TV industry. Unique because it is the only site run by, and for, TV freelancers - and independent, because we do not advertise jobs, and can therefore say what we like - good and bad - about production companies and broadcasters.

- Breaking news affecting TV freelancers

- Database of good and bad employers
- Mailing list to keep you informed
- Surveys and research resource
- Campaigns for fair employment conditions
- Over 5,500 registered users

TV Freelancers began life in 2002 as a simple forum on the internet, for half a dozen concerned professionals to share views and discuss the problems facing freelancers in the UK TV industry today. From humble beginnings, the site's forum grew into an active community for those who love making telly. It tapped into a need to reduce the isolation felt by many workers when it came to negotiating fairer contracts and rates, and also began to expose some of the illegal working conditions suffered by a small number of the most vulnerable freelancers.

Our members told us about the kind of information they wanted on the site. With the programming support of productionbase, we added interactive databases to the site, so that users can now get up to date information about actual going rates, and can also share their experiences of good and bad employers. Our mailing list also keeps thousands of freelancers up to date with relevant industry news, and changes which will affect their working lives.

We have also become a vital source of research information. Polls run via our forum have provided the first glimpses of real working practices in the freelance sector, from working hours to holiday pay. Our members are also contributing to industry-wide research about the PACT/BECTU agreement, and the annual Skillset survey. Welcomed by BECTU, the NUJ, and productionbase, generating regular column inches in the broadcast trade press, and with thousands of registered users, TV Freelancers is now part of the industry landscape.

TV Freelancers is the site you wish you'd discovered before you went freelance. Join our mailing list to be kept informed - we only email you when there's important news, so your inbox will not be cluttered - and tell your friends and colleagues about us.
